Public Policy Advocacy
We allocate 50% of our annual lobbying budget to non-commercial project initiatives. This includes collaborative working sessions with NYS leaders to nurture improvements to NYS public sector value delivery and the pursuit of legislative remedies to intractable problems.
Our current inventory of Public Policy Advocacy projects includes:
Ensuring NYS’s Paid Family Leave program is affordable and equitable
Improving transparency in NYS’s commercial healthcare insurance markets to reduce premiums and improve consumer decision making
Reducing waste in large-scale NYS IT projects by adopting Federal requirements around Modular Contracting
Small Business and MWBE Procurement Reform to improve equity and drive NYS economic development
FOIL + Transparency
Sometimes, even collaborative lobbying does not make a difference. In these cases, we allocate a portion of our legal budget to pursue long-running Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) actions in NYS. These FOIL requests are designed to bring light to the foundational data that we hope may ignite change once uncovered.
We publish these FOIL results and data sets in an “open source” posture. We hope that by making available data that is difficult to acquire, we accelerate non-profit public advocacy in their endeavors to being about meaningful change.
